How Much Candy Did You Hand Out on Halloween?
Uma Thurman in "Kill Bill," Super Saiyan 4 and other trick-or-treaters made out well.
Just how much Halloween candy did the neighborhood dole out last night?
A few pounds, thousands of pieces and hundreds of dollars’ worth, according to neighbors keeping the magic alive.
“I just got off work and want to get rid of it all,” one woman said from the front yard of her Clinton Street apartment. It was around 7:15 p.m., and she estimated she had four bags of candy.
Further up Clinton, a friendly man in an elephant costume shared that he’d given away probably two to three pounds’ worth.
Another woman estimated she’d dispersed 2,000 pieces of candy by 8 p.m. Her friend, further up on Warren, stocked even more than her – about 2,500 pieces – but hadn’t yet used it all, she said.
When Bria Schirripa first moved to Carroll Gardens a few years ago, she did not have nearly enough candy for the 300 or so children seeking sweets. “I didn’t know the breadth of Halloween in this neighborhood,” she said.
These days, her in-laws drive in from New Jersey bearing Costco-size bags of candy for her and her husband to distribute. “The trick or treaters are abundant, but also, everyone’s out on their stoop, having wine, playing music,” she said. “It’s a lot of fun.”
Allison Collins from the Columbia Street Waterfront District said that she and her husband purchased about $25 worth of candy – a Hershey’s snack-size assortment bag and a pack of Twix fun-size cookie bars. “We’ll put these in a bowl outside our door because we are somehow never at home to see all the trick-or-treaters,” she said.
Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, Super Saiyan 4, Freddie Kruger, The Joker and hundreds of other small creatures wandered up and down Clinton and Henry on Friday, finding excitement in the dark, chilly air. One little girl, dressed up as a morbid doll, sat inside of a plastic box holding a sign that read “Do Not Open” as her chaperone pushed her around on wheels.
One neighbor said they spent $160 on eight bags of candy this year, while another said they purchased 6 jumbo-size bags for $300.
“My husband and I stopped by CVS to run an errand the other day, and I was disgusted by the prices,” Schirripa said. “I actually went to Trader Joe’s and bought some candy there.”
She estimates she spent about $30 on fruit leather. “How much candy can these kids eat?”
Apparently, a lot.

Candy business did well, I guess. Fun read. 👏
