Monteleone’s Updates Its Look as New Neighbors Move In
As sleek storefronts and trendy eateries move in, the 90-year-old pastry shop stays true to its roots while adapting to the evolving face of Carroll Gardens.
Pasticceria Monteleone has traded its festive burgundy awning for a black-and-white covering that blends seamlessly with next-door neighbor Alts’ aesthetic.
Antonio Fiorentino, who purchased the business in 2011, has been approached by customers concerned that the Sicilian pastry shop has come under new ownership. “We’re still here,” Fiorentino said from inside the shop, which has been running out of the same location since 1935.
The awning update came after a facelift the building’s new owners, J&J Carroll Gardens LLC, conducted earlier this year. J&J, which purchased 355 Court Street from the estate of Gloria Buscemi in April of 2023, took down the fire escape and renovated the facade.
