One of my favorite things to do, as seen in this (raunchy) 2021 SNL skit, is window shop on Zillow and StreetEasy. I am almost as active on these apps as I am on Instagram, which feels a little absurd because I don’t currently have millions of dollars lying around. Still, in between my feeding and sleeping hours, I find myself on the couch, double-chinning, filtering and swiping.

Recently, I came across this Zillow listing for a five-bedroom, four-bathroom duplex in Red Hook. Arched windows offset by terracotta blocks. Multiple terraces. Minimalist designer furniture. Heated floors! I texted the listing to my husband with the same urgency I have when something is malfunctioning. The apartment’s $3,750,000 price tag says “luxury,” but what spoke to me was the carefully considered architectural design and the curated staging.
