A Special Announcement
Before we get into this week’s roundup, I have some *~personal news to share. My partner and I are on our way to the Philippines, where we’re getting married! We’ll be taking a much-needed vacation after the wedding, which means this newsletter won’t hit your inbox for the next two weeks. We’ll be back May 16 with our regularly scheduled programming :)
This Week’s Slow Read
Slow Read, a CSJ editorial concept, is an invitation to slow down and enjoy a read, from beginning to end.
Brightline, the mental health startup for kids, just opened its first IRL clinic in Downtown Brooklyn, making therapy more accessible for local families. Known for its tech-first approach, the company now offers in-person care for children ages zero to 18 — and yes, they take insurance. With plans to expand across NYC and into schools, Brightline is stepping in where the system falls short. Full story here.
The Roundup
The Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District is hosting its third annual Earth Day celebration this afternoon. There will be live music, there will be free plants and there will be no cars! Peep the flyer for the full details:
F&F Restaurant and Bar will open for lunch today – and today only – for dine-in and takeout. The slice shop will be closed until 4 p.m. This Instagram pic did what it came to do, and if I wasn’t literally mid-air, I’d be there.
Mexico In My Pocket founder Luisa Navarro wrote a book, Mexico’s Day of the Dead: A Celebration of Life Through Stories and Photos! Navarro spoke with me about Day of the Dead traditions late last year. Pre-order her book here.
The Six Bells is having its annual sample sale. Do I need a rattan fruit bowl? Maybe. If you’re shopping, use code ‘SAMPLESALE’ at checkout.
While we’re on the subject… Apotheke is having a warehouse sale, offering up to 70 percent off of candles and home goods. Head to Red Hook May 3 and 4 to snag some deals.
Shout out to Painted Swan for always having the loveliest window displays. This Mother’s Day one <333333
