Slow Read of the Week
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of galavanting around Paris, Antwerp and Brussels. The Parisian heatwave took me out, Antwerp won me over and by the time we reached Brussels, it was clear that I had picked up more than a few vintage designer finds. By that I mean – I got sick!
It has taken me this entire week to recover, but I guess that’s the price of galavanting. I do not have a new Slow Read for you, but with all things French on my mind, I’m recirculating this piece I wrote about Carroll Gardens’ French influence. While we’re on the subject, I simply must try this hot dog from Brooklyn French Bakers!

Photographer and artist Lorna Simpson is selling her Fort Greene art studio — and it has a name! What was once a one-story garage was transformed into a four-story home called “Pitch Black.” There is a large great room, a third level that can be converted, a raised reading nook and a Japanese-inspired garden.
I found this NYTimes story on the new luxury developments opening in Gowanus interesting – specifically the way they’re being marketed: “A new building at 365 Bond Street touts its location near the ‘waterfront esplanade park,’ while the website for 363 Bond notes the area’s ‘distinctly industrial character.’ The Union Channel at Gowanus Wharf, a 224-unit rental building on Third Avenue, even took inspiration from the canal’s bulkhead for its zigzag patterned facade.”
