And We’re Back!
Oh, how I have missed this newsletter! I took the past month and change to focus on a freelance project, due out Spring 2026 (more on that later). I’m grateful for the project, which inspired fresh ideas that I’m excited to bring to CSJ in the coming months. Moreover, I’m grateful for your patience while I was away. One day, I’ll be a pro at balancing a full-time job with growing this newsletter (hello, imposter syndrome), but until then, I’ll keep practicing. Writing this with the hope that it brightens your day, and maybe even sparks a new connection in the process, brings me joy.
That said, let’s get caught up! This is issue no. 13 delivered to you on Sep. 13 (!).
The Roundup
Road reconstruction making room for protected bike lanes on Court Street has begun. The effort, announced in June, is in response to a high number of crashes involving pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Having less car lanes is also expected to tame rampant double parking.
A Borough Hall report found a 20-year life expectancy gap between Brooklyn neighborhoods. Residents of Carroll Gardens, Park Slope and Downtown Brooklyn are thought to live longer, with a life expectancy as high as the late 80s.
Strong Buzz reports that Mazzola Bakery is for sale for nearly $10 million.
Trudie’s Tavern, opening in the former Buttermilk Channel space, will bring fried chicken and waffles to the neighborhood once more.
Bar Ferdinando, a.k.a. Ferdinando’s Focacceria’s Sal Lamboglia era, is expected to open this November.
2Pac’s “Hit Em Up” Mobb Deep diss involved a music video partially filmed in Carroll Gardens. (I know, it’s a stretch.)
Speaking of music videos, did you see The Green Lady in Chappell Roan’s “The Subway” music video?
Alcove, a growing network of premium pods primed for private productivity, is making its first corporate hire.
Lucali is bringing its pasta (not pizza!) to Manhattan this October for The Infatuation’s EEEEEATSCON NY.
Conde Nast Traveler proposes a perfect day in Carroll Gardens.
I don’t watch “Survivor,” but this Season 48 contestant’s apartment is quite lovely.
